Project description
Originally the Max Schmeling Hall had been desigend as a multifunctional sports hall additional to the cycling and swimming hall for the Olympic Games 2000 in Berlin. The basic architectural idea has been to create a green accessible bridge between the formerly seperated city parts along the past wall. In the centre of the three wing facility is the main arena with a capacity of 10.000 people and a bellied steel roof. Under the green roofs of the two side wings three triple sports halls for school sport, club sport and competitive sports are placed. This versatile programme is completed by integrated leisure facilities, like exercise rooms, sauna, restaurant and several youth club rooms. The high level sports and cultural events make it even necessary to provide rooms for the press, officials, VIP's, competition management and sports medicine.
