Project description
This project has been designed as scene of the Olympic Games for cycling, swimming and diving and was part of the immediate construction works in the course of Berlin's olympic application 2000. After Sidney had been chosen as scene for the Olympic Games the project was rescheduled for a multifunctional permanent use. Nevertheless the requirements still were to meet world championship standards. The capacity of 6.000 people in the cycling hall and 2.200 people in the swimming hall can be expanded up to 9.500 and 4.500 respectively by temporarily overbuilt tribunes. The two large sports halls were constructed under the surrounding level with a light height of 13 m. Nearly 500.00 m³ of soil had to be transported from a temporary unloading point neaby the construction site to the final dumping via rail transport.

Benefits for the client
After Berlin had not been chosen as scene for the Olympic Games 2000 the resulting rescheduling for multifunctional permanent use and the one year delayed construction of the swimming hall due to the deconstruction of the cold store the buget committees of the Land of Berlin thought of stopping the construction of the swimming hall.  PROMOS has worked out at short notice decision alternatives incl. the respective financial consequences. Thanks to this activity the building that had been designed as a building complex regarding its functionality, infrastructural development, architectural and urbanistic design didn't become a torso unattractive for the public use. Instead the budget determined by the state of Berlin was realised by extensive savings without functional and quality penalties within the original set time frame. The annual Berlin 6-day-races and national and international championships in the swimming hall have proved this project's very high quality.
