Sure, he gives you a hard time now and then – but especially when everybody gets on well with everybody else, you need a spoilsport who is not afraid to end up in the doghouse. If your personal trainer is a darling, he is the wrong one. Right?

— Philipp Heydel about Bernd Hullmann

Bernd Hullmann

Fearless. That he is, in two ways even. He is not afraid to rub people up the wrong way; nope. Yet, never for emotional or personal reasons but only when it’s about truths and constraints for the benefit of the project. And fear of the task as such? Of the responsibility for large capital expenditures and complex assignments? Not after more than 20 years with the company. Respect, yes, of course. But for nervousness or agitation, Bernd Hullmann is much too dry, as he calls it. Or too poised, too composed, too experienced, too pragmatic. That has a calming effect – on himself as much as on his clients. Already his father had an architectural firm; but he never really understood what the boy was actually doing. Well, times have changed. By and large, a house is still a house, but the importance and complexity of figures, systems and communication has taken a completely new dimension. It’s still no rocket science – all the same, it’s a good thing that the boy takes care of it.
