“Sure, he does give you a hard time every now and then - but especially when everyone gets along very well, you need a killjoy who isn't afraid to make himself unpopular. If you're feeling overly sweet for your personal trainer, he's the wrong guy. Right?”

Philipp Heydel knows Bernd Hullmann

Fearless. That's what he is, in two ways even: He's not afraid to offend. Period. Never for emotional or personal reasons, of course not, but when it is a matter of truths and constraints for the good of the project. And fear of the task itself? The responsibility for large investments and complex tasks? Not after more than 20 years in the company. Respect, yes, sure. However, Bernd Hullmann is far too dull for nervousness or excitement; as he puts it. Or too confident, too tidy, too experienced, too pragmatic. This reassures both him and his clients. His father ran an architect's office, but he was never really able to imagine what the boy was doing there. Well, times have changed. Sure, a house is still a house, but the importance and complexity of numbers, systems and communication has reached a whole new level. It's still not rocket science, but it's good that the kid is taking care of it.
