EDGE SÜDKREUZ – BERLIN
In the center of the so-called "Schöneberger Linse", between the train stations Schöneberg and Südkreuz directly at Hildegard-Knef-Platz, the new German headquarters for the Swedish energy company Vattenfall is being built, an ensemble consisting of two structures, a solitaire and a carré, with a total gross floor area of around 38,900 m². The structures will be built using a sustainable modular timber hybrid construction method.
The groundbreaking and sustainable building system follows an innovative and resource-saving ambition. The combination of the renewable raw material wood with concrete reduces the CO2 emissions generated for the production of the shell compared to conventional reinforced concrete construction and at the same time contributes to a healthy indoor climate. The building materials used are mainly recyclable according to the cradle-to-cradle principle. Accordingly, the ensemble has already been pre-certified with DGNB Platinum. Certification for Well Core Gold is being pursued. The two buildings have seven above-ground floors each. The Carré is characterized by a large atrium, which is structured by four tree-like stair constructions.
