KaDeWe Berlin

SUCCESS ON ALL LEVELS

When the Süddeutsche Zeitung headlines the day after the opening: "Architectural firm OMA has set off escalator fireworks at KaDeWe", it is certain that THE KADEWE GROUP has reached another milestone with the opening of the new state-of-the-art escalators.

A look back at the history of the two-and-a-half-year "Haus im Haus" conversion shows that this project, also in many respects, meant a project of extremes. Almost on a daily basis, the project team was surprised by new situations in the building stock and consequently had to overturn processes that had already been approved and restructure the workflow. However, not only the construction in the existing building stock, but also the construction during ongoing business required extreme measures for the continuous maintenance of the operation and put the stress limits of the customers, the staff and the project team to one or the other test. Last but not least, it was of course also a realization in extreme times, but neither a worldwide pandemic nor a delay of the escalators stuck in the Suez Canal could stop the steady progress of the project.

The so-called VOID, the area of the former atrium, now includes a spectacular state-of-the-art escalator structure, an impressive designer area for women's and men's fashion, a newly created beauty department, and a stylishly designed children's world.

SMV continues to be part of the action! Especially when, at the end of the year, the "Stairway to Heaven" will reach the 6th floor with the ever-popular food court known as the "6Te".
